Shower Threshold 101

 

Introduction
A custom shower base from TowerShowers.com requires a shower threshold in order to make a proper transition between the finished floor and the surface of the new shower base. Our custom shower base is available with your choice of a standard integral threshold or a custom detached threshold to ensure that that your custom shower base will meet your expectations regardless of your site conditions. Thresholds are typically supplied to match the color of your shower base and are easy to install. The four styles of thresholds are shown below for your reference. Standard Integral Threshold

When you select a custom shower base with the standard integral threshold, you will receive a shower base with a rigid water barrier on three sides and an attached threshold on the fourth side. This threshold is perfect for those applications where your shower base requires a threshold on only one side and there are no angles or changes in floor height. Handicap Accessible Threshold

When you select a custom shower base with a handicap-accessible threshold, you will receive a shower base with a rigid water barrier on three sides, and no water barrier on the threshold side. The threshold will be shipped loose. The threshold is approximately 8" deep and is sloped to allow wheelchairs to roll-in and roll-out. The highest part of the threshold is raised slightly above the surface of the shower base to keep the water inside. See our Threshold Selection Video above for additional information.

3-Piece Threshold

When you select a custom shower base with a three-piece threshold, you will receive a shower base with a rigid water barrier on all four sides. The threshold will be shipped as three loose pieces. This threshold is perfect for those applications where your shower base requires a threshold on more than one side or there are angles or changes in floor height. One-Piece Threshold

When you select a custom shower base with a one-piece threshold, you will receive a shower base with a rigid water barrier on all four sides. The threshold will be shipped loose. Our one-piece threshold is shaped like an upside-down "U" and is easy to install. This threshold should only be used in a wall-to-wall application.
